USA beat Spain 2-0 in the Confederations Cup. Spain is the no 1 team in the world right now. and was on a record winning streak. USA through to the final.
Swerve- Enough levity. It's time for further dismay.

Wow. 2-0 up against Brazil in the final. Brazil went on to score three unanswered goals, but it was still a great effort.
I remember trying to explain to Rod a while ago that the US was not somehow genetically useless at soccer - just that its best athletes end up in the popular national sports. He couldn't comprehend the idea and it's not just because he's a little dim. It must be insane to live in a country where every single kid wants to be a star in the same sport.
Now that the American league pays big bucks, the players over there are becoming the real deal. It's sort of a shame for all those South American and continental European countries that in a decade or so, the best teams will probably be the typically successful Olympic nations.
