A new F1 season starts, and nobody here talks about it?

Post by Pete.Z on Sun Mar 29, 2009 5:22 pm

Bloody wimps,I came here specially to see Dunnas pictures. :smellywub:

Was a nice race, cars look weird, but it looks like we might see some action again this season.
Great show at the end by Vettel and Kubica, maybe stupid, but at least they were racing! :talon2:

First corner he was hit by Barrichello who was hit by Kovalleinan and that pushed him into Heidfeld. He was able to finish the race in last place after limping back for a new nose but the car wasn't in great shape.

Cars look good in real life. The front wings actually look normal, but the rears are still silly.

Great qualifying, racing, everything. Although I would have liked Vettel to win, the final result went shockingly right for my work Fantasy F1 team. I have Ferrari who looked to be the best sans-diffuser team until Kimi pulled an 08. Luckilu, I also have Renault, Hamilton and Barrichello. So 16 points for the weekend.

i agree on the looks part. renault had an 09 display car in their champs elysee store and it actually looked alright.

i disagree on the racing though. at least before you could love or hate hamilton/raikkonnen etc. but you at least had a semi argument that they were the best drivers out there. button and barrichello however???

Coulthard would have wiped the floor with everyone in Melbourne 98 had he not decided to let Hakkinen pass. Race one is always a bit weird.
I did think there was a lot of class displayed by Hamilton, Glock, Alonso and Kubica. I might need to check if the odds have shortened at all on Vettel, because he was 50-1 pre-season and looked like a good deal even then. Assuming his DNF clouded his ability, he may still be the pick of the bunch.

it's always been at least 50% the car, though. we now get to see good drivers who aren't on the biggest teams have a shot. button is good. perhaps not as good as hamilton/massa/kimi, but still, better than the honda he drove last year. the big teams got it mostly wrong, and some of the smaller teams got it right. the new rules definitely have produced more action though, since cars car get closer to each other, and they're more difficult to drive (the wide front slicks apparently make the cars oversteer a lot, which is good for me, and a pain in the ass for them, as it should be)...

also, the american tv team are reporting a rumour out of melbourne that one of the reasons the protests over the diffusers have been so vigorous is that one of the "conventional diffuser" teams asked the FIA several months ago about a design like that and were told it wouldn't be allowed. they then are told that it would be legal when others showed up with it. needless to say, they were cheesed off.

the speculation is that was done deliberately by the FIA and bernie to try and break FOTA, since having all the teams together and getting behind a single agenda makes them a LOT more powerful. and max and bernie don't like others to have power...

In fairness it certainly seems that Max didn't mind others having power, as long as it was in seedy basements. And a whip is involved.

and what the fuck were ferrari thinking with raikkonen???

I loved that move by ferarri. Watching the live timing along with the race I could see what a fuck up it was right away. Lost about 20 seconds on the outlap alone.

Webber had terrible luck again though. Was in 3rd for the two laps before the one that the results were based on. :curses: He was absolutely flying on the full wets compared to everybody else though. :talon2: If he didn't pit to change to inters and then the next lap to change back to wets he probably would have won as he had pulled well ahead of heidfeld who didn't pit at the end at all. :smellywub:

word spreading around motorsport community is to expect a couple of new faces at brawn soon. a certain short, tubby frenchman was spotted wandering around the paddock in distinctly un-ferrari clothing.....and one german chap was apparently thrown out of the ferrari garage after his error in telling raikkonen to change onto full wets. both have a very good friend at brawn

entirely possible. and ferrari's loss. could we have a slow motion repeat of 1961, with brawn an ATS that delivered?

todt would make an interesting addition, i wonder where he would fit in at brawn. and michael. he's still pretty damn fit, and he definitely didn't seem entirely ready to retire when ferrari pushed him out. could this be rubens last year, with michael returning to the grid next year?...

what better way to get button and rubens to shave an extra tenth off than reminding them there's a german with itchy feet waiting in the garage who could still show everyone on the grid the way home.
